Fall is in full swing in Maryland right now and Mussleman’s Apple Butter has been a favorite in the house. When you think apple butter you normally think about it as a spread but it is so much more.
There are so many recipes you can use apple butter in and make them taste so good. I received the lovely gift pack pictured above and it had some wonderful recipes in in. I cannot wait to try them and my favorite one so far has to be the Sweet Potato Apple Butter Casserole. We decided it would be perfect for our Thanksgiving table!
Another one I can’t wait to try is the Autumn Apple Butter Dip. Also included in the gift pack was a spurtle. I have never heard of nor used a spurtle before. So I had to make Google my friend and check it out. A spurtle is a handcrafted tool that you can use many ways in your kitchen. It is a scraper, a spatula, a stirrer, etc. It is designed to not scratch your pots. The one I received was handcrafted and I love it. I use it a lot!
I decided that I wanted to do French Toast in a Muffin Pan with Apple Butter Spread. Let me tell you, apple butter is the way to go on french toast. I usually do a little butter with powder sugar but apple butter tasted so much better.
Ingredients
- 12 slices of french bread ( the baguette kind, cut 1" thick)
- 6 eggs
- 1/2 C. milk
- 1/2 C. Heavy Cream
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees and prepare your muffin tin cups with cooking spray.
- Whisk all your ingredients in a bowl.
- Soak your bread in your mixture for about 30 seconds, turning over to get both sides evenly.
- Place each slice in a muffin cup
- Divide any remaining egg mixture and spoon over each slice
- Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through, until lightly browned.
- Spread apple butter on each piece while still warm.

on toast!!!
That french toast idea sounds intriguing..but I usually like apple butter, just on a piece (or a loaf, if I do not pay attention) of bread and butter. Either way, thank you for having this giveaway, hope I win!
I love apple butter! On toast, warm rolls instead of butter, waffles, pancakes, french toast – also good warm over vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!
I love it on toast, but I think I’ll have to try that French Toast Recipe of yours that sounds delicious. Thanks.
I don’t know because I really have never eaten it. My mother loves it, but I tend to like things plain. I would probably use it in a recipe or on hot biscuits.
