My Mom and Dad have been married 50 years. When you think about it, that is a very long time. When they got married they set up housekeeping in a little apartment over a Dollar General store in Virginia. My Mom started out with hand me down housekeeping items and some of them she still has. They decided to move to Maryland so my Dad could get a better joband they bought their first house. That is when my Mom finally bought her china and flatware. Over the years we have moved a few times and the flatware ended up missing or messed up somehow. She never replaced it, just used what was left. Then last Christmas she said she wished she had some new flatware for the table. Being the amazing daughter I am, and I am Amazing, I never forgot. So when I had a chance to review flatware from Reed and Barton, I jumped on it!

I chose the Surrey 81 piece set. I will admit I wasn’t sure what to expect. It looked really pretty on the site. It was elegant, yet not over the top. I knew my Mom would want something that didn’t look overly gaudy. I loved the design, especially the intricate details on the top of the forks and spoons. I really felt it was the best one for my Mom and that she would love it. I was completely right :)

The flatware is heavy and durable. I almost threw my back out trying to wrap the box. Each piece was in a plastic cover and it was well protected while shipping. I was very impressed with that. I cleaned it all up before giving it to my Mom but did not put it into the dishwasher. I hand washed each piece in mild dish soap and warm water. It cleaned up beautiful and dried like a dream. It also came with a serving set and I fell in love with the shell shaped spoon. So much so that I honestly thought about pocketing it and pretending it never came with the set, but of course I didn’t. That would have been so wrong, lol.

Christmas morning was an exciting time and after the paper was thrown everywhere I gave my Mom one final gift. She kind of struggled to open it because it was so heavy but she finally got it open and the look on her face was completely priceless. She couldn’t believe I remembered that comment months later and was really touched that I did. She loved the flatware, just like I knew she would, and it now has a place in her cabinet. I plan on buying her a chest from Reed and Barton for mothers day.

Speaking of Mothers Day, I gave this gift at Christmas but Reed and Barton flatware and silverware is a perfect gift any time of the year. Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Birthdays or even Easter. I know a newlywed would love and treasure the heirloom quality of the flatware. It’s a gift that will last and anytime the receiver uses it, they will think of you fondly.
