I was in the mood to bake but really didn’t feel like getting into full baking mode. So I started thinking about making cookies using cake mix, which is one of my favorite things to do. It is easy, quick and of course delicious. If you know the basic recipe you can make just about any type of cookies.
The basic recipe is pretty simple:
- 1 8 oz. pack of cream cheese
- 1 stick of butter
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. vanilla ( or flavoring of choice)
- Cake mix of choice
To make these Golden Butter Chocolate Chip cookies you use a golden butter cake mix and chocolate chips. I used the mini chocolate chips because it loads the cookies with chocolate chips, making them even more delicious.
Directions
Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees.
Cream your butter and cream cheese together, until smooth. Add your eggs and vanilla, continue beating until well combined. Slowly add in your cake mix, beating between additions, until the dough is thoroughly mixed. Fold in your chocolate chips. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 10 to 13 minutes.
For those of you that are in full baking mode, might I suggest this homemade chocolate chip cookie recipe round up from Sally’s Baking Addiction. What ever your baking mood is today I am sure you will find something to bake that has just the right amount of chocolate chips and flair!

Do you have to add cream cheese? I am not a big fan of it. I was wondering if there was something different i could use. Or just take it out all together.
Hi Heather! You don’t have to. You can omit it or use Mascarpone cheese. It is like cream cheese but with a much lighter texture and flavor.
