Handcraft Heroes is a new campaign brought to you by Handcraft wines. This campaign was very important to me because I have had several family members pass away from breast cancer. Early detection is the key and I am so glad there are places like HandCraft that go out of their way to support this cause.
[box] Third generation California vintner, Cheryl Indelicato, is passionate about giving back to the community. As a former Registered Nurse, she witnessed firsthand the pain caused by breast cancer – the physical and emotional torment of the patient, the fear and sadness of friends and loved ones. As Cheryl began work on her life’s dream, her own wine portfolio, she knew giving back would be a key facet of her project. In 2012, Cheryl launched the HandCraft Artisan Collection of wines with a personal commitment to donate $100,000 toward breast cancer research, prevention and awareness. In 2013, Cheryl has continued the fight by supporting community based initiatives around breast cancer awareness and aiding those in treatment. As part of this vision, Cheryl has teamed up with Susan G. Komen 3Day National Spokesperson, Dr Sheri Phillips, to create the HandCraft Heroes campaign on Facebook. This initiative seeks to honor those individuals who share their time, talent, resources, and by their actions, inspire others to seek early detection for breast cancer as well as those who support patients who are ill and undergoing treatment. HandCraft Heroes will run from August 19 through September 30, 2013. [/box]
Handcraft Wines
Inspiration Red Wine is rich aromas of spice, blackberry and plum rise temptingly from the glass. On the palate, these jammy fruit characteristics are met by vanilla and a touch of sweetness from the perfectly ripe grapes. Tannins are bold and upfront – the perfect wine to sip on a cold winter’s night or alongside some good old fashioned BBQ. Personally I think it would be perfect for Christmas dinner with a rack of lamb. It was rich and deep with a spicy chase.
Inspiration White Wine was rich with fruity overtones such as citrus, honeysuckle, peach, and green apple. It had a crisp taste and just the right amount of acidity. Also noted was melon, peach and lemon zest when it sat on the tongue. I had this with my lunch ( my kids were in school) that consisted of a Crab Salad sandwich. It went perfect with the sweet delicate crabmeat. I also think this would be perfect with a spicy dish. The sweetness of the wine would be amazing with a spicy after kick.

Please watch the video for more information about Handcraft Heroes and get inspired!
Individuals are encouraged to nominate themselves as a HandCraft Hero on the HandCraft Facebook page (facebook.com/HandCraftWines). Nominees will be evaluated by an independent team of judges chaired by Dr. Sheri Phillips, board certified physician, breast cancer survivor and Susan G. Komen 3Day National Spokesperson. Three winners will be selected to become HandCraft Heroes and will be honored at a private inspirational retreat hosted by Dr. Sheri and Cheryl in Monterey, California in February 2014. In addition, Cheryl will donate $2000 to the pink charity of each winner’s choice. Winners will be announced during Breast Cancer Awareness Month on October 15th, 2013.

BCA Wine and Cheese Party:
What better way is there to raise money for breast cancer research than to have an intimate gathering of friends for a wine and cheese party? I honestly believe this may be one of the best times to charge your friends for a party with all proceeds going to Breast Cancer research. Here are some tips to make your party a success!
- Donation amount- Give your guests the ability to choose a donation amount. Not everyone can afford to donate $50.00, even $5.00 will help. This is supposed to be a fun gathering while raising money for a great cause. Making your guests feel uncomfortable about their donation amount is not fun.
- Wines- Have several wines to choose from like the Inspiration Red and Inspiration White from Handcraft. Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chianti, and Pinot noir are popular choices for wine parties. Have several glasses on hand so everyone can have one for white and one for red. Also supply washable markers for everyone to write their name on their glass.
- Cheeses- Brie, Gouda, Sharp White and Yellow, Gruyere, and Blue cheese are all excellent choices. Cut cheeses up and serve on platters with little name tags in front.
- Cleansing the palate- Make sure to have citrus fruits or table crackers available to cleanse palates during the tasting.
- Goodie Bags- A small goodie bag with a wine glass and charm is perfect. Places like the Dollar Tree sell both and you wont have to break your bank giving your guests a little something to leave the party with. You can even decorate the wine glasses.
- The Table- Preferably there should be at least two tables. One for the Wine and Cheese and another for literature about breast cancer, prevention and testing. Also, include information about the place you are donating the money too. There are several reputable places to donate, the most obvious being Susan G. Komen but there are also little places such as The Pink Tutu Project.
