I can remember my first frozen meal like it was yesterday. I was about 7 and me and my grandmother had made our weekly grocery run. I used to spend every Saturday night with her and it was part of our weekly routine to go grocery shopping. I had never heard of a frozen dinner, or as they were affectionately called back then, TV dinner. So my Grandma bought one for me to try. It was Fried Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, and Corn. Looking back now I know it was pretty nasty but I declared it good because it was a novelty. Thankfully those type of frozen meals has come a long way.
Sometimes when I am really busy and just don’t have time to cook we eat frozen meals. One of our favorites is Healthy Choice. Especially their Top Chef line. They are made with real, high quality ingredients-like crisp vegetables and tender meat. I also love how the meal is made in two separate containers. The bulk of the meal on top and the sauce in a separate bottom container. It keeps everything from getting mushy and yucky.
It is possible to have healthy meals that are frozen and be good for you. The one above is Ricotta and Spinach Ravioli and Chicken Marinara. It has 6 grams of fiber, 21 grams of protein, and 260 calories. That is less than some pre-packaged meals per serving. Plus it tastes amazing! It tastes like real quality homemade meals. It has just the right flavors, the vegetables are crisp, the chicken is tender, and the sauce is delish!
When it is finished just plate it and BAM! you have an amazing meal that not only tastes good but is good for you!
When you don’t have time to cook frozen meals make a great alternative. Brands like Healthy Choice and Maria Callender’s have built in portion control and have over 80 meals with less than 400 calories. Couple that with meal replacement products like Bars and Shakes and you have quick and easy meals for those times that you are just to busy to cook!
March is frozen food month! ConAngra foods put together this video that follows two women on the adventures of their daily lives, imagining how new technologies will impact their routines, especially in the grocery store.

ConAgra Foods frozen meals give families access to real ingredients like crunchy, freshly cut vegetables, homemade pasta and ripe fruit year-round. Just like most people blanch veggies before freezing them – ConAgra Foods does too – to help preserve color, texture and keep them fresh!
Give it a try sometime! Marie Callender’s hearty pot pies are filled with tender meat, freshly cut vegetables and Marie’s authentic golden, flaky crust. And Healthy Choice recipes use chef-inspired ingredients like, apples instead of sugar for tart sweetness and a splash of red wine for a punch of flavor instead of added salt.
