On Mother’s Day Avery and I decided to do Mother/Daughter Manicures. Let’s just say it turned into Avery manicures because my kid found her passion. I will admit that I really wanted to jump in and make them all perfect but she was having so much fun I didn’t have the heart to. So what if they weren’t all fancy or “cover” material? All that mattered to me was we were spending time together.
It started by heading out to Walgreens on SaturDate ( May 11th) and checking out the sales. I grabbed my rewards card before leaving the house because I am a reward addict. I love saving money and earning points. We really love Sally Hansen so it was only natural that is the section we headed to but not before we spied these awesome products on sale:
The green one made it into my cart and after my sneak sale attack we headed into the back and purchased some more colors. The rest of the stuff we needed for the nails we already had. Our inspiration came from this, sort of:
We were going for street style nails and this project was where I learned that even the best laid plans can sometimes go awry, but in a beautiful way. These were the colors we ended up purchasing: (From Pop Art )
After gathering our supplies we started. Well, Avery started. We were going to do mine too but I bit all mine off. Avery was really upset with me but I had fun taking pictures and watching my kid do her first nails. She has long nails but a few are chipped right now so she decided to put some press on ones on and decorate those. Oh and did I mention she is only 13? She is and I think she rocked these! Here is how she did it!
First put vaseline around your fingers to keep the mess to a minimum. Paint your nails a solid color for the base. She used the blue. After they are dry, add a piece of tape diagonal to your nail bed and paint another solid color. You don’t have to be super perfect. They are supposed to be a little messy.
After they dry, pull the tape off. Using a fine brush and silver glitter polish ( she used showgirl chic HERE ) add a line across the top of the diagonal polish.
Taking a q-tip blot a little bit of color on your corner nails. She used the green.
After your nails completely dry add decals or sparkles. She used little hearts and then added a top coat.
Awesome sauce! Here is my little Picasso at work and she already wanted to be a cosmetologist. I now think we can add nail artist to that also!
