Military Appreciation Month is May. Compensation for this post was provided by Chevrolet via MSB New Media. All opinions expressed in this piece are my own.

Military Appreciation Month is a big deal here. Not only do we live around Aberdeen Proving Ground, we have had several family members serve in the Armed Forces. My Dad served in the Army, as well as my Uncle Jerry who served in Vietnam.

When I was younger, before 9-11 happened my Dad would always take me to the Armed Forces day on the proving ground. It started when I was a little girl and that is where I learned patriotism. Even to this day I stand when our flag is presented, stand for the Star Spangled Banner and I can salute a superior officer correctly.

Unfortunately after 9-11 the military base stopped doing Armed Forces Day. I miss it and wish my girls could have experienced everything I did. Sitting on the tanks, talking to the brave men and women that keep our country safe and watching the demonstrations where they blew stuff up. Yes, the demonstrations were my favorite part!

My Dad still works on the proving ground, but as a contractor now. He is high security so I can’t tell you what he does. Before that though, he worked at General Motors until he retired just before I graduated high school. That is why it is so important to me to tell you about #ChevySalutes and their military appreciation month discount.
