Mac n Cheese in a Mug? Oh, yeah!

If you follow my blog, you will know my attempt at making chocolate cake in a mug did not go well. I am not really sure what happened. Maybe it was the fact I hate failing at something so simple or the fact that having something in a mug is appealing to me, but I now have an obsession with recipes in a mug.

So imagine my excitement when I found out you could make delicious mac n cheese in a mug. Not the processed, powder cheese kind but the really, cheesy, gooey kind. I was sold.

It is very simple to make:

Add 1/3 cup of pasta and 1/2 cup of water in a mug. Microwave on high for 2 minutes ( the water will spill from the mug, this is expected) stir, microwave for another 2 minutes, stir, and you may need to do it another two minutes depending on your microwave. Add a little milk and a handful of cheese and stir.

So, did I succeed. YES! I succeeded and it was delicious! See:

I love mac n cheese, so this is going to be a great addition to my recipe book because now I can have it quick and any time. Plus it is a little better for you than the pre-processed ones.

Till We Dish Again,

Bobbie

  4. This looks quick and easy… I prefer to make a big batch of mac and cheese the old fashioned way and just piece it out into smaller containers and freeze them before the final cooking phase… that way I get really creamy mac and cheese in a microwavable size…

  8. I fixed the overflow problem by cooking the whole thing at 20% power. If you use a large mug, the water boils almost to the top and backs down, then comes back up, over and over. I cooked the water, milk and macaroni at the same time. I also added about 1/2 tsp. butter to the water, milk and mac. I stirred mine about every couple of minutes, just to make sure it didn’t lump. When most of the liquid was absorbed, and the mac was tender, I stirred in cheddar cheese and put it back into the microwave, again at 20% power until the cheese was melted. NO BOIL OVER at the lesser power with a large mug.
