Oh my! I found this totally new way to make Cakes in a Mug and guess what! They taste amazing! When doing cakes or anything in a mug really, you are taking the good with the bad. Some people swear it tastes just like the dessert that you are trying to make into a single serving and some say it tastes bad. I am always trying to find ones that taste good! So imagine my delight when I found a new recipe for any type of cake in a mug, that tasted like real cake. At first I was like “ooo I have to try that” and then my second reaction was “hmm..I have had some bad ones, so lets just see!”
I decided on Coconut cake because it is one of my favorites. The process is really simple but pay attention!
- 1 box of yellow cake mix
- 1 box of angel food cake mix
- put in a container and mix well
I know, I know, so many steps and we are all so busy. But I promise if you just try it, it will be over very quickly! The ratio is 3-2-1 ( super secret formula here- so shhhh)
- 3 tbsp. of the cake mix
- 2 tbsp. of water
- 1 minute in the microwave
Seriously, that is the super secret formula! Some things to keep in mind while mastering this complicated treat:
- You can use any cake flavor but it must be mixed with angel food cake every time
- Sometimes angel food cake has the egg whites in a separate package, add them in
- Do not over mix, your cake will have holes and be super spongey
Ingredients
- 1 box of yellow cake mix
- 1 box of angel food cake mix
- a couple pinches of coconut
- whip cream and extra coconut for a garnish
Instructions
- Combine the boxed cake mixes and mix well
- Mix 3 tbsp. of your cake mix with water.
- Add a couple pinches of coconut.
- it a couple of swipes with your fork to mix, just don't over mix.
- Put in microwave for about 1 minute or 1 minute and 30 seconds.
- with a little whip cream and add some coconut for garnish.
Some of you have noticed that I put my stuff on plates or in another mug after making it. I do that because I don’t like to eat out of the same thing I just cooked in. It is just a personal preference and you can do it however you like. Here is another image of the cakey goodness:

I would like to thank The Hidden Pantry for this recipe. Rock on Aunt Betty, Rock on!

Thanks a lot for this recipe. I am looking forward to making this in the future!
So glad you like Aunt Betty’s 123 Cake! And, I appreciate your giving me credit for the recipe. I like your blog!! Good luck to you in your coming ventures. Also want to mention I give another recipe for a cake in a mug that is delicious but you make the whole thing from scratch in the mug instead of using the mixes. Just an FYI for anyone looking for little recipes from scratch.
Stay sunny,
Diane
